should I go for MCSE certification or CCNA certification ? what is the difference between the contents of MCSE and CCNA ?

I will explain it using an example of a bank containing two branches in city A and city B.

The branch in city A has 40 employees working on 40 machines. This setup is called a LAN (Local area network). If the machies are running on micrsoft technology (i.e., the operating systems are windows based), then, you need to learn MCSE (Microsoft certified systems Engineer) to know how to network them.

So, in a nutshell, MCSE teaches you the networking concepts of a LAN. In our current example, MCSE certified engineers will be planning, designing and maintaining the LAN in city A and the LAN in city B.

Next, since both the branches are of the same bank, we will need to connect them. But they are in two different cities. Now, how do we network them ?

one solution is to run a connecting wire from the LAN in city A to the LAN  in city B - which is not feasible.

Here comes internet to the rescue. Internet is an already available network which will be running through city A and city B. All we need to do is to connect the LAN in city A to the LAN in city B and this configuration is called a WAN (Wide area network).

But how exactly do we connect the LAN to internet ? For this purpose, we use a hardware called ROUTER. Now, Cisco is commanding a major chunk of the router market. Now, CCNA (Cisco certified Network associate) is the certification that teaches you how to manage those routers in a network.

So, CCNA in a nutshell teaches about WAN (Wide area networking) by using Routers.
