Chrome is here to stay. That is fixed. Now here is a list that I prepared about 5 things good and 5 things bad about Google Chrome.  first of all, you may try it out by free download from here

The good ones first..  :)

1.  Grand opening - first, the list of recently opened pages and then the url suggestions when you try to enter a url ( which includes sites that you have not yet visited).

2. Google is not the default search engine on google chrome :).  right click on any tab and select - Edit search engines. From the list of search engines available, select your default one.

3. If you’re just surfing around the web and clicking on links, that information does not go to google.com. (given google’s thirst for knowledge, I expected them to include this also.. )

4. Every thirty minutes, Google chrome downloads a list of 32-bit url hases of urls thought to be dangerous - both malware and phishing.

5. Chrome is open source ( Source: NewYork Times). Hence its source is available for scrutiny even for competitors.

and now, the bad ones..  :)

1. Privacy :  Google already knows what you search and read using google search and google reader. Google also collects data about site visitor status using google analytics. Now, with the launch of chrome, it has bridged all gaps that google currently has in collecting user data.

2. Monopoly : We all agree that Microsoft is a proprietory company and we are aware of the Microsoft monopoly in the OS market. Now, isnt this what Google is also doing in the internet domain ?

3. Chrome desperately needs a progress bar to know how much of a page has been already loaded.

4. I have read a lot of hype on chrome’s speed due to dns-prefetching, java-rewriting etc.. But, speed is something that needs to be experienced while surfing without carrying stopwatches and measuring. Frankly, I could not feel the increase in speed.

5. When I was surfing using chrome it has crashed quite a few times. (the browser close unexpectedly without saving the session).

But keep in mind that Chrome is still in beta version and in google’s hands :)

So expect improvements at an exponential rate.
